The United States, China, Korea, Thailand, Türkiye, Croatia, Italy and Chinese Taipei secured places in the quarterfinals of the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U17 World Championship in Chile.

The United States, defending champion China and Korea advanced while preserving their unbeaten records, while Thailand produced the biggest upset of Round of 16 by eliminating previously undefeated Poland.

Thailand, fourth in Pool A, defeated Pool C winner Poland 3-1 (25-19, 25-21, 10-25, 25-23). Natthamon Ajchua led the winners with 25 points, while Chayanut Inthanoo added 19 and captain Chamikon Cankawe scored 14.

The United States continued its perfect campaign with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-15) victory over Argentina. Kari Knotts and Maya Ogbogu scored 16 points apiece, with Julia Masselink adding 13.

Defending champion China secured its quarterfinal berth by beating the Dominican Republic 3-1 (25-18, 17-25, 25-19, 25-17). Chen Xinyi led China with 15 points, while Dominican captain Rayni Merab Mondesi Arias finished with a match-high 31.

Korea also remained unbeaten, sweeping the Philippines 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-14). Captain Son Seoyeon led the Korean attack with 19 points and Eo Minseo contributed 15.

Türkiye booked place in the last eight with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-7, 25-23) victory over Japan. Türkiye dominated at the net with a 12-2 advantage in blocks, while Çağla Çağlayandere led the team with 13 points.

Croatia joined the quarterfinal field after defeating Czechia 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-19). Erin Ivezić delivered a 23-point performance, including 22 attacks, as Croatia controlled the all-European matchup.

Italy advanced in dominant fashion with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-13) win over Peru. Hillary Uwadiae scored 15 points and Sveva Terzi added 14 as Italy recorded 41 attack points and 13 aces.

Chinese Taipei completed the final eight by sweeping Venezuela 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-22). Chang Yun-Chen led with 19 points, while Chan Tzu-Yun scored 18 and delivered seven of the team’s 11 aces.

Following Thursday’s rest day, the eight remaining teams will return to action Friday with four places in the semifinals at stake.
