My shattered hamstrings still force me to grasp the wall like I’m drunk when descending a flight of stairs, but it’s the itching from the poison oak that keeps me up at night. It makes me wonder why I even decided to sign up for my first 100-mile ultramarathon, and how I managed to finish it.

One of the things that always fascinated me about the Harding Hustle were the 50k course records. The men’s record had stood since 2016, set by Nicholas Hilton, and the women’s record since 2011, held by Michelle Barton. I honestly wondered if either record would ever be broken.
