Mrs. Acorn and I headed back down to Harpers Ferry, WV on 8/3. We arrived at around 5pm and got set up in our suite at The Lighthorse Inn. Then we walked down to Lower Town for dinner at The Rabbit Hole. We hiked back up the hill for a nightcap at Snallygasters (cafe/drinks). Then it was to bed, long travel day!

The next leg of my JMT thru hike takes me through a rolling journey of another mountain pass, alpine lakes, and improvised sun gloves. I also hike into Muir Trail Ranch to pick up my resupply box, and take time to enjoy the Blarney Hot Springs with friends!

There was an immediate shift in the landscape upon leaving Kennedy Meadows. I hiked through a luscious meadow, along the cold, flowing Kern River, and under tall trees that provided welcome shade. There were ample water sources, and the temperature was 20 degrees cooler. It felt like arriving in paradise after surviving the torturous conditions of southern California.

Checking Out of Hotel California
Well I’m finally out of California after nearly 4 months.  Such a varied state, forgot I was still in the same one since Mexico.  With 900 miles left, feels the end is in sight, but I’m still hoping for some good sunsets to come. Glad to be out of California.  Hope to visit again – not soon.

Our park stay was an absolute win. I slept so well last night. I woke up slowly and walked over to the bakery. Everything looked so good. I got a sweet cream cold brew and an egg and veggie focaccia sandwich.
