About the Role

The successful candidate will help APS communicate scientific research and promote its journals and activities through social media and other communications channels.

The position sits within APS’s Strategic Communications and Public Relations team and may also contribute to broader communications initiatives, including press outreach and APS News.

Key Responsibilities

The Science Writer and Social Media Content Creator will be responsible for:

Writing social media posts, press materials and long-form stories.
Creating content that promotes scientific research and APS journals.
Developing communications around APS activities.
Sourcing or creating multimedia assets.
Reviewing and editing content for accuracy and clarity.
Ensuring materials follow the APS style guide.
Identifying timely and newsworthy scientific stories.
Assisting with APS social media accounts.
Maintaining editorial calendars.
Creating, editing and publishing social media content.
Engaging with audiences across social platforms.
Monitoring social media performance.
Supporting performance tracking and reporting.
Monitoring emerging trends, opportunities and risks in the social media landscape.

Who Should Apply?

APS is looking for candidates with at least three years of relevant experience as a science writer, particularly within a news organisation, research institution or scientific publishing environment.
